I'm raising money for a cause I care about, but I need your help to reach my goal! Please become a supporter to follow my progress and share with your friends.
For many years, Teach For America placed teachers only within the Delta region of Mississippi and Arkansas. In 2009, at the request of then State Superintendent of Education, Hank Bounds, we tripled our corps size, enabling us to expand outside of the region of the Delta and into the hills of Mississippi. In that first year of growth, we placed just four corps members in Holly Springs, but we now have 19 first and second year teachers in Holly Springs School District and another three in Marshall County School District. These 22 teachers teach over 1,500 students every day. Our teachers' impact on student achievement is bolstered by the support of community members like you. Without your support, we couldn't bring these highly qualified teachers from across the nation to Holly Springs and Marshall County as we have for the past 3 years. Thank you for your support.
TFA-Delta currently supports and develops over 520 teachers, also called corps members, who teach over 43,000 students in more than 150 high needs public and charter schools across the region. Additionally, more than 250 TFA alumni live and work in the region. Dozens of our corps members have been honored as their schools' Teacher of the Year, including Birdette Hughey, who was named the 2011-2012 State of Mississippi Teacher of the Year in just her second year of teaching. We continue to increase our impact in the region with the help of supporters like you. Your generous hospitality helps our teachers make a home here in the Delta and encourages them to stay beyond their two-year commitment.
Thanks to a generous donation by an anonymous donor to TFA nationally, for every $5,000 this campaign raises, we will receive an addiitonal $5,000 in matching funds. We have started this online campaign in conjunction with members of several Delta communities who wish to help us bring additional energetic young teachers into local Delta communities.
