Battling Immune-Mediated Polyarthritis

I am reaching out to share the challenging journey of my best friend and dog Lila. Lila's story began in Peru, where I found her at just four weeks old. Since then, she has been my constant companion, my source of joy, and my everything. We’ve had so many adventures together! From road trips to camping and hiking to jumping into lakes and oceans. Unfortunately, the diagnosis of immune-mediated polyarthritis has changed the course of Lila's life. For the past year, Lila has fought against this autoimmune disorder, relying on steroids to help her walk. However, the prolonged use of steroids has led to unforeseen complications, including a rare disease called calcinosis cutis. As a result, we face the challenging task of tapering her off steroids, which has become necessary but poses a new set of difficulties. Lila is six years old and often gets mistaken for an elderly dog due to the toll the condition has taken on her. The long-term steroid use is depleting her connecting tissues in her ankles, causing her once lively paws to become floppy. This heartbreaking reality means she can no longer run, hike, or play like she used to. In addition to the medical challenges, I find myself burdened with a Care Credit debt of $1500, accumulated over the last two months. As a graduate student managing an internship and part-time job, my financial resources are stretched thin, and I need your help to alleviate this mounting debt.
