Daniel joined our team last July and is currently working on the Mesa jobsite. Daniel has a son named Azarius who turned 9 years old in January, and who has congenial heart disease. Azarius was born with a single double-right outlet, causing a mixing of blood flow and producing low oxygen. At 5 months old, Azarius underwent an operation called The Glenn Procedure to help blood flow through his heart properly. Fortunately, the operation was a success but the doctors said another surgery would be needed when Azarius was around 4 years old. At age 4, the group of doctors assigned to Azarius from the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, said he seemed to be doing well so no surgery was needed. As Azarius got older however, and more involved in sports, his parents noticed his breathing got slower, he got tired often, and his oxygen levels started declining. Now at age 9, Azarius’ doctors have decided it’s time to have an open-heart surgery, so he is scheduled for what’s called a Fontan Procedure (named for the doctor who first performed it), in June. The doctors said there is no cure for this disease and each operation Azarius has is like a Band-Aid, a temporary fix. When he is 25 years old, he will need to have a heart transplant.
We are raising funds for Azarius and family so he can take a nice trip before he has surgery in June. Please help us if you can.
